I Have to format my computer because of technical reasons. I have a 1.0GB flash Drive, and i was wondering if there was a way to copy them to it, or any other way I could recover them after I format?

Phobosaff.... is correct: backing up to a DVD is best, but you need to be sure you either get a backup proggie which will b/u ALL data and Program files with all System files (a total backup) to the DVD's or else resign yourself to backing up ONLY the data files (the files which hold the information on what you've done/created so far) and then re-installing the Operating System and program files, then d/l'ing the data files from the DVD to your now squeaky-clean HDD.

While I realize that Yahoo! Answers is a place for short questions, you do not address the reason for this re-format: if it's a corrupted OS or a problem with the present OS, you're best in using method Two. It may be longer to do but you don't run the risk of reloading an infected/defective OS onto a clean HDD and so needing to do the entire exercize again.... method One CAN all end in tears, trust me.

A good source for information on this (and other questions) may be found at the LANGA LIST (Fred Langa's column) or at Windows BBS online.... both are very helpful places and contain excellent advice and suggestions beyond this. And they're free.

Full marks to Phobosaff.... I merely expand on his thoughts.

hi ,

If the size of the data you want to save is under 1 gb then ofcourse you can save it on the flash drive and transfer it back once you are done. But if you have data that exceeds 1 gb then you have to either borrow a external usb drive with higher storage to save your data. If you have a cd or Dvd burner you can burn discs of your important data and copy them back too.

I would like to update you that once you format your computer you would loose all your Softwares like yahoo, msn messengers, antivirus software , office applications and others. you would have to reinstall them again. you cannot save installed softwares. but only the data.

Regards

There are some recovery progs, but they are not for free or easy to use. Save the doc's, saving games files, make some DVD's with audio or video files. But the main idea is back-up now that you can recover later.

if by "them" u mean files.....??....then yes you can save them to the flash drive or any other plug in device that stores information, if u r part of a network then you could save them to another computer on the network. copy and pasting by right clicking

formatting erases everything 1 gig may not be enough to store all your stuff i would back things up on discs (preferably dvd's they hold a little over 4 gigs)

If youformat the harddisk you will loose all the data, so back up before you do it. You can burn all data on CD, or backup on saparate hard disk
