In the aftermath of the Iraq and Afghan debacle it is tempting to yield to emotions and say, 'Yes'. But it's too simplistic. But what is beyond doubt is that during the last few years, the USA has been badly served by its leaders. The powerful influence of the neo-cons and funadamentalists has been very pernicious and unfortunate for those who are at the receiving end of their policies. If you throw in greed and lust for power together with some of the most technologically advanced weapons we have ever seen into this mix, you have something that could potentially destroy mankind.
Many Americans are not different from those in other nations - they want to live in peace and security. But if one lived among them for a while, one is soon aware that they are generally victims of a relatively narrow and myth-driven society. Their media, newspapers, TV and radio, are very US-centric and as a consequence many do not know very much about what's happening in other countries and cultures unless they make a real effort (it's good to hear that they can now get Euronews, but sadly only for some). Americans have to be careful that they do not fall victims to their own mythologies but learn to take a critical look at themselves. They have some of the most powerful myth-making machines in the world - Hollywood, TV stations, etc. Many of their self-beliefs are based on myths peddled by these machines. Even their stories of the Pilgrim Fathers, the fight for independence, the role of Puritan morality, cowboys, etc., are often seen through the misty, tinted glasses of myth. They must learn to look for the truth wherever it takes them. Yes, there was heroism in the early pioneers, but there was also genocide of the native Americans and unequal treaties which destroyed their nations. Yes, there were macho cowboys, but there were gay ones too. Yes, Saddam was a cruel despot, but he did not have WMD. Yes, Saddam murdered thousands, but was it right to invade and cause even more deaths and leave behind more suffering and chaos? And was it only for pure motives (to bring freedom) that the US and UK invaded? Is not personal (of leaders) vanity and ambition involved? Evangelical (as opposed to fundamentalist) theology tells us that all our actions are tainted by sin. While the US has often been quick to accuse others of being axes of evil, it has been blind to its own faults. Power needs to be tempered and constrained by Goodness. And the desire to do Good needs to be informed by wisdom. Sadly, the latter is missing from its leaders just now. And without redeeming Goodness, Wisdom and Truth, the US could easily be a WMD.

No we the people are not the weapon of mass destruction but we have a military and weaponry ready able and willing if attacked like in 9/11? Why should we not be able to defend ourselves against all the others that have the same? Guaranteed that is what you would do if you were personally attack is fight back. We are just lucky enough to have all these Americans paying taxes and year after year living, going to school, going to work in peace and yet when threatened yes we will defend ourselves and this country from any aggressive force that threatens our way of life, and we will also defend ourselves against a dictatorship that is tearing this country to shreds for their own personal gain as well. But all in good time, all in good time.

America is to big, I think that you are talking about USA of North America. USA people is innocent, has been terrified by the Press and the terror campaign, but they start to wake up. The real murderer and weapon is that jerk, retarded, manipulated for a bunch of hungry vicious devils, Arm Factories, Construction Companies, his father, etc . But his Allies like UK has to stop him or nobody else will do so.

Most 'hatted' Loneytrav? Cowboy hats I presume! No, America isn't a weapon of mass destruction, they just set the ball rolling! Think George W should have a restraining order put on him though.

Yeah. The US basically holds a gun to the head of every nation on earth, in one form or another. Everyone is well aware of US military superiority and the ease in which it uses economic sanctions. They also know that it will use these tools to beat you into submission if you don`t fall into line with US policy. Right or wrong.

the two Clinton and Bush AND the weapons inspectors theory there have been WMD being hidden. and you may not fairly be attentive to till you bypass in there. purely as Churchill, for the period of WW2, feared the Germans have been making WMD, and found out purely after the conflict exchange into over that they have got been some distance from it.

We just quite simply Possess the most outrageous arsenal of butt kicking gear that the world has ever imagined !!!
Lucky as hell for the world that we really don't want the bloody damned thing or---guess what---we'd own it !! We already feed half the dang world and fight the other half's battles for them---why would we want to take on the mothering job for the rest of the planet ??

No that is a misguided statement... that implies that all Americans are for destruction on a mass scale!
No some are for peace the type john Lennon spoke of... and no we are not hippies either...
"All we are saying is give peace Chance"...
