Of course. Our culture is based largely on an ideal of physical perfection. All kinds of goods and services are bought and sold for and because of beautiful (mostly young) people. I live in a college town and many employers will hire a beautiful brainless bimbo over someone with skills and experience. Customer service suffers, but the employer gets to look at someone cute.

Good looking people have better advantages everywhere, not just in the US.
Lots of studies have been done on the theory that being good looking has advantages. People just tend to like nice looking people, they don't like the uncomfortabel feeling supposedly 'not good looking' engender.
