Cats have 9 lives; depending on your personal beliefs, people may have 'chance' after chance to get it right. Or not.

Cats are said to have 9 lives not 7. It is because they are generally lucky and quite resilient, in fact like the rest of us they have just 1 life. The number 9 probably comes from the number of whips on a cat of 9 tails which was used aboard ships as a form of punishment. That is where the phrase "not enough room to swing a cat" comes from. As to chances, I don't think there is a set amount anybody gets so best to take full advantage of any that come along.

I feel sorry for your cat. What happened to its last two lives? It'd be nice if we could all have 7 lives. I'd settle for 3, even. As it stands now, I have to make this one count for as much as possible, cause when I kick the bucket, that's all, folks.

People have only the chances that they make for themselves. You can't sit at home and wait for someone to give you fame and fortune.
