Do you enjoy it? Did you know all along what you were going to be or did you chance on the job?

I'm grocery department shift manager/trainer, and a pricing coordinator at a major California/Nevade grocery store chain. I like the people I work with (somewhat), and I wouldn't say that I enjoy my work, but I guess I've been doing it so long I'm just used to it. It's not a boring job because something different happens everyday and I meet all kinds of people. I met my best friend at my job and we get to work together everyday. I also met the love of my life while working there.

Me? I'm a jack of all trades. Yeah, I knew all along what I'm going to be, then change my mind every few years. Originally wanted to be the guy designing laboratory equipment for genetic engineers, then I quit university and joined the army, then became software engineer, then became college instructor(math/physics), and currently customer tech support. 6 months-2 years in previously mentioned fields.

2 months - 6 months in the following carpentry/raising hogs/construction work/barber/encoder/thesis making (getting paid to do other people's thesis/projects)/tutor

been doing this part time since I was in grade school -raising crops (vegetables and fruit bearing trees, started planting trees when I was 8, I'm now 31 and some of them are quite big, I don't really own most of them though, I just loved planting trees and the absentee landowners wouldn't mind)

LOLZ, I got genius level IQ and nothing to show for it. I'm never gonna attend high school reunion. Yes, I do get to enjoy my job, for a couple of years at least. What a drifter I turned out to be.

Journalist the last 10 years, I love it. Did a bit of writing when I was young, including a bit of stuff for the papers. Sort of "fell" into it after I sold a publishing business I ran. But the funny part is that I started off as a mechanic, a back injury made doing that hard so drifted in and out of a few things including selling Insurance and Debt Collecting!

I work in health care and have been for 30 years. I enjoy it for the opportunities, varieties, and diversities afforded to me during these years. My profession is one of the few that affords so many opportunities for growth personally (people you meet and work with from all walks of life on a daily basis) and business wise in so many areas of the workforce(education, law, government, tourist/recreation/entertainment industry, insurance, law enforcement)
I never planned to enter this profession and I don't regret it. I can work anywhere- home, office, clinic, hospital, helicopter, just to name a few. I can work at anytime - day/evening/night- 4-20 hrs/day. Salary is consistent and you do get paid on time-everyday/ once a week/every two weeks. You can work for yourself or for someone else.My salary can be whatever I want it to be.
It can and is oftentimes a demanding and stressful profession (depending where and how you work). You are exposed to seen and unseen forces beyond your control. You see, hear, taste, smell life, death and man's inhumanity to man on a daily basis.
It can be taxing on relationships - scheduling / long hours/ and the nature of the beast.
It takes a special kind of person to do what I do and an even more of a special person to stick by you.
I am a Nurse PRN.

I am a an assistant accountant and in my free time a cop. I never thought in a million years that I'd be an accountant, and in school I dropped accounts. I enjoy my job now:-) I also never thought I'd do police work, cos when I was younger I was always scared of it being dangerous-now it's my mom who is worried about me being a cop, lol! I live in South Africa and am 21.

Im ready to spend the rest of my life in my job.
Im working as Monitoring and Evaluation Expert with international organizations. This work give your the opportunity to know what is really going on in many countries.

The problem is im from Iraq and its hard for me to find a job outside it (which i got after alot of hard work) but as a consultant.

The problem here is that its not a life time job and it gives you max 4 or 5 years of working and after that you have to find for another job.

But in General i adore it.
