I was just thinking about this, you are so right.. India is becoming more and more Westernized by the day and when I say Westernization please don't confuse that with modernization because these 2 are different.

I'm not sure if becoming very Western is a great step for India, as it is known for being a country that is very deeply rooted in its beautiful and colourful culture. Colonization and imperialism has had a tremendous effect on India and back then Indians were very much against Western imperialism but today, it seems like they are accepting it with open arms.

I think Indians should re-think about the beauty of Asian values and how instilling Western values can have a positive or negative impact in the future of the Indian society.

My rank: 3. While India is growing steadfastly it still has many social, political and economical issues that needs development.

I agree and disagree at the same time... though i think you are only looking at the effect, and judging from whats in the media... First the good... Statistically, crime and homicides have been steadily decreasing of the past 20 years, However these rates are still higher than before the 50's (even with WWI & II).. Now the bad... An over industrialized mentality has caused excessive marketing, advertising and planned obsolescence causing people to be totally consumer minded and looking for whats "new"... This consumerism has bred a bit of a new mentality, plus through marketing "sex sells"... so more and more sex (or sexuality) goes into the media... Though, i do not see this a a bad thing necesarilly, as i am in the opinion that people are fare too sexually repressed (which is probably why "sex sells" works so well) But the problem is that marketing exploits real emotional/physiological needs offers something superficial because in hopes that it will "satisfy" that need enough for you to spend money on it... Whether that be an esteem need, a sexual need, or a need for belonging... (see maslow's heiarchy)... As a result of this exploitation of emotional and physiological needs, people become more irrational and forget what made them want a product in the first place... This leads to the the emotional buy... but anyway... people end up thinking that these superficial products are the only way to satify their desires, as we are bombarded by this to an extent that many of us have forgotten what we truly desire, (whether that be belonging, esteem, ect)

India is developing a split cultural personality, with one side going highly spiritual and traditional and another going the western way.

I agree with you. I have talked with several people from India when I have needed support for my HP printer.

They are very intelligent and I think that they are at a point that many can work towards their dreams and goals.

I don't feel I have enough knowledge about their country to rank them.
