Congrats on giving up! As someone who was a medium-heavy smoker it will be the best decision in your life - cause it will prolong it! lol keep going. I used chewies in fact i should have taken up shares in them and id have made a fortune! Do you have access to the Quitline? call them if you do and they can sent you a quit book for free. Have a look...i mean for example it takes two hours for the nicotine to be out your system, in three hours the little hairs silia start standing up again (in your nose, throat, lungs etc). I quit the day i found out i was pregnant. Find a reason and focus on that. Take it hour by hour if you have too, its what i did to get by the first few weeks. You can do it, find your focus, grab those chewies and go for it! You will be suprised at how muted your sense of taste and smell used to be. Also you'll be able to smell when people are smokers cause i find they smell like dog wee! (with the smoke thats stuck to their clothing)

I stopped smoking three and a half years ago without any patches or gum. I had smoked 20 a day for 25 years.

Just keep reminding yourself how much you hate smoking and be strong. I would now feel so dissappointed with myself if I started to smoke again that I know I never will.

Another thing to remember is how bad as a smoker you stink to people who don't smoke. I had someone next to me in a shop the other day and nearly threw up at the smell of this person, it was like standing in an ashtray.

Good luck.

You can improve your chances for permanently quitting with the cold turkey method if you follow a few guidelines:

Understand that withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, tiredness and more, may be fairly intense, but they will lessen after just a few days.

Drink lots of water to help your body flush itself out quickly.

Keep a straw or other cigarette substitute handy to keep your hands and mouth busy.

When cravings hit, close your eyes and count down from 10 to 0, very slowly. Breathe deeply with each count.

Call a friend when you feel like reaching for a smoke. Divert your attention.

Take a quick walk, even if it is just to the bathroom or mailbox.

Superhuman willpower is often associated with using cold turkey to quit smoking. While having strong willpower is important, ultimately your success depends on how badly you want to quit and whether or not you believe you can do it. If you want to quit more than you want to smoke, and you believe that you can quit, you'll likely be successful.

Just know that this is a test and it builds character. To beat this is like killing a lion with your bare hands. You will be a true warrior if you can do it and it is not easy. It is a challenge.
Get lots of fruits and vegetables to snack on. Just wait and get through it the best way you can. Don't ever tell yourself you can't do it.

Say a prayer. Find something to occupy your time that you smoked a cigarette. Don't think about it. It's all in your head. You are powerless over smoking a cigarette-read, call someone. It will get better as time goes on.
