After I graduated with my BA, I took a class by itself at a different univeristy than the one I got my degree at. Since it was not part of my degree, and was from a different school, can I get that professor to write me a letter? It is within the same field that I'm applying for graduate school and I am certain he will write great things. How do graduate admissions committees generally feel about these kinds of letters?

That would not be a problem, especially if your other two letters are from professors at the university from which you received your degree.

Go for it!

Best wishes to you.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can. I'm in the process of applying for graduate schools and I've never seen anything that specifies the letters must come from professors only at the university where you got your degree. Often times, I see instructions that say professor "or others familiar with your abilitites" or something of that nature. Since it was a college level professor and especially since it's in the same field, you should have no problem at all - good luck!

Of course you can solicit a letter from him. I am applying to graduate school right now. In fact, out of the three letters I got, only one was written by a professor from the university I graduated from.

Most professors probably have some sort of recommendation letter template that they have in their pc somewhere. So it's not hard for them to write you a recommendation leter. You can contact them by sending them an email or phone them directly and ask them if they are willing to do so.

if you took a class under him he should be able to write you a letter. you want to get your best professors with the biggest names to write your letters and of course you want people that write good letters -- they are often weighted more than your gpa or gres so you don't want someone saying you are just adequate.

I'm sure you can get a recommendation letter from him because you took his class, and he should know your academic abilities.
