I retired from being a fireman after 18 years and became an undertaker. If the money had been better, I would still be doing it. You have to have a special( maybe even cold ) outlook on life. There are times when removing bodies infested with maggots can make you wonder why you are there, but the team work, being out and about and witnessing how people react at funerals, make no 2 days the same.

In response to the garbage man part: my father used to work on a city council and he was often rotated between different working areas. He worked as a garbo for a few weeks and thought it was great - he still got paid the same amount whether he finished at 12 or 4, and it isn't that hard to jump out of a truck and back in. Of course now, all that needs to be done is to drive the truck and press a button to pick up the bin.

I am a self employed plumber, I chose this job as I knew I would always be employed (15years)...I may visit up to 5 locations a day ,meeting a great range of the general public, all the time earning money of which I have control...No boring office or factory job for me.......O.K. I get my hands dirty now and again, but that,s the spice off life.... In fact my phone tells me I have to go again,(leaking drain pipe on a flat roof) in all this wind and rain. Great life aint it...... See ya...

im in the funeral services, and the reason i do it and love it is the job satisfaction. Helping families at possibly the worse times of their lives, and then getting gratitude for helping them get through it. I have had a few jobs in different areas, and I will never do anything but this job, as the satisfaction is enormous. However, it certainly isnt a job for everyone.....its difficult at times, and extremely distressing, but the good outweighs the bad.

Believe it or not, but some people don't have much of a choice when it comes to choosing jobs. To suggest that these people actually chose s.hitty jobs is an insult.
