It has to do with promotion. Bands are not as promoted as they use to be and now it's mostly singers where it's about image rather than talent. That's why American Idol is against ugly singers. Now it's harder to create a major image, because now people have access to thousands of artists around the world that are still working and 10s of thousands of artists that aren't.

I haven't followed new pop for 15 years and only a few pop artists from the 80s and older. My list is a bunch of groups that few have heard of although some have made slight break throughs with all the TV (advertisements and television) that's looking for alternative bands. Sometimes I find out later that a song I like was played somewhere rather than the other way around since I don't watch TV or listen to the radio (except yahoo radio).

yes but they could sing, they were ORIGINAL and also they could play their instruments.

It's much harder- if not impossible- for young guys to be original nowadays. A guitar has only got 6 strings, after all. And it has ALL been done. hendrix took the instrument as far as it could go.

Mind you, I can remember people moaning because clapton sounded so influenced by BB king. And Bolan was heavily influenced by Eddie cochrane. So they said.

those artists you mentioned are meant to be pop? um. OK??!!. Probably coz their all pop stars are practically clones of eachother nowadays. It's ALL about the money, not the love of music. And 75% of them are talentless.I have completely stopped listening to pop music. It's just too much. The lyrics have no meaning. The stars have little personality if any. What's the point?? To put it quite simply they suck and so does their music!

Good Question! Why do we no longer see guys in make-up or out rages silly costuming. The answer is clear real, it's because years ago artists had more licence to be themselves now they are told what to wear, say and think by old fart in suits like Pete 'I should Be So Lucky' Waterman and Simon Titster Pants.........would you take fashion tips from him and his mob! Record company's need bringing down there are no longer enough of them. also I think humanity has lost it's sense of hummer and take music far to seriously. Bring back Noddy and Dave Hill!!!

Maby they should do more LSD and less cocaine. Disney land was "magic" when I was a kid. It was never magic but I didn't find this out until later when I read Walt Disney was a social Darwinist and had connections with Nazi's. Magic hmm.
Change.
