We'll strat trying for a baby soon but would like to know how long after the pill to start trying and how long to take folic acid for. Some doctors have said you can get pregnant immediately but other say to give your body a few months to allown a natural cycle. Which is correct?

Certainly you can start trying for a baby right away, but it probably won't happen for several months. I got pregnant about five months after I stopped taking the pill.

I would start taking a prenatal vitamin right away. There's enough folic acid in there, as well as other vitamins that you need.

It depends on you. I got pregnant right away after being on the pill for about 2 years. My friend who was on the pill for about the same amount of time took about 4 months to get pregnant.

Folic acid is good for you and baby. Start now. Even if it takes a while to get pregnant, your body will be better of because of the folic acid.

you need to wait at least three months before getting pregnant after getting off birth control. You should start taking folic acid right away, because its good for you . that way you have a head start and you wont have to worry if you've been taking it long enough. Folic acid is really good for a growing embryo's nervous system and good for development of the spine.

Start taking the vitamin with folic acid now. Folic acid is most important during the earliest part of pregnancy, often before you even know. They have found a direct corrolation between lack of folic acid and spina bifida so it's very important to take it now.

It rarely hurts to take a vitamin even if you aren't trying to get pregnant. Look for one with at least 800mg of folic acid per vitamin.

When I told my OB/GYN that I was thinking about trying to conceive she wrote me a prescription for folic acid right away. It's never too early to start taking it. Also she told me to wait atleast 2 full cycles before trying to conceive. We ended up waiting about 3 months then started trying. It took me 2 months to conceive. I'm now 19 weeks pregnant.

I dont think you have to wait. They just say its best to wait because once you have a cycle it will be easier for you to date how far along you are. Plus having a cycle you will also be able to work out if your late on or not. They also say it can take up to 6 months if not longer to consive after coming off the pill. of course there are people who have managed it in less.

as for flic acid you can take it up to three months before you concive and then for the 1st 3 months after.

Good luck!

I got pregnant the same month I stopped the birth control pills. I unfortunately just lost the baby recently.

It mostly depends on your cycle. If you go off at the time of your period and stay off it should work immediately. Good luck and I hope things work out.

it depends on her cycle, but i'd suggest u wait 2 months. folic acid is not a must but she can take it, it's just a dietary supplement.
