I would not get too obsessed about how good or bad universities are.

In reality it is not the university that you attend which is the important factor in your future career success but the quality of your qualifications and the type of person you are.

I work as a chartered accountant and a few years ago when I left university and was interviewed by KPMG I asked the interviewer whether the university that I attended would have any bearing on whether I would be offered a job or not. The interviewer told me that KPMG was not interested in which university their applicants had attended. All they were interested in where their A-level grades, degree class (which had to be a 2.1 or better) and the personality and life experiences of the individual applicants.

Instead of getting obsessed about so called university league tables and the like, my advice to you would be to concentrate solely on working hard and getting the best qualifications that you can.

Remember that 38% of university students now study at their local universities in order to keep their debts to a minimum by living at home. These individuals have obviously realised that the institution they are attending has less of a bearing of their future career than the quality of their qualifications and they are right!

hi babynash!

im in my fist year at huddersfield uni!

its a really great place, you havea a huge building dedicated to human and health sciences and its a friendly place with events all the time! iv already been to amsterdam that cost me £80!!!

the team are all friendly and im a student representative there.

if you have any querys people are always there to help!

i found it a bit duanting at first but there are loads of places to go, the town center is across the road!!!

im studying psychology with criminology so i cant help you subject wise... i was never called for an interview...not many are so dont fret too much!

plus i realised a week before i started the cource i wanted to change it (i applied to do behavioural sciences!) and they kindly let me change cource... i did have to go for a little interview then...but it was very informal!

they asked me why i wanted to change....so i told them honestly... people like honest answers and its what they look for, if you say it because that cource gets you loads of money in the long run say it!!! but like me...it was a great area of interest for me... so i told them, i wasnt sure career wise where i wanted to go, but that it involved the whole area of study (i didnt know if i wanted to work for the police, government or in prisons... i still dont!!!)

if you are really stuck in your lectures then you can always seek help out side, we have a huge library which is open 24/7 and you can stay there at night too!

if you wanted to...lol

dont worry too much... if you need any more help then this website.... www.hud.ac.uk is our website... you can go find out about particular cources. it is such a great, stress free uni that id recommend it to anyone.

iv lived in huddersfield all my life and the night life is great too... at the moment the uni is undergoing some changes and new buildings are being built...after all this year we got a 2.4 million pound grant! we are expanding so much

head up... were not like the snotty unis that worry and kick you off cources if you dont turn up...the only reason they will ever call you is to see if you are ok!

i forgot to sign the register for about 3 weeks (you only sign it once a week) and they emailed me asking if everything was ok!!! there was no "why arent you in lecture!" or " if you dont turn up your out" sort of thing... its just so laid back

im currently in the lab rooms upstairs in the ramsden building, which if your enrolling on a human helth cource which i think you are, youl be using this room alot!!!

also before each lecture you can review whats going to be in the lecture and print off the notes before you go to them or just sit and take notes...

i realise iv written alot here... so im just going to stop!

lol...if you need anymore help just email me and il be happy to help!!!

x

To be honest, I didn't even know there was a Huddersfield Uni...I think that might say a lot. But I guess it depends on what subject you want to study and if its any good for that.
