I am using the same SEPARATE washer and condenser dryer (Bosch) since 7 years. The reason why I chose a condenser dryer was that I knew I will have to move house a lot (my job), and I can't always expect a ready-to-go "hole in the wall" wherever I go.
From my experience, it is not true that a condenser dryer -
- takes longer
- wrinkles clothes more
- uses significantly more electricity.
But I found (elsewhere) that those machines that COMBINE washer and dryer show all the above disadvantages.
The only (small) disadvantage I found with a condenser dryer is that you have to take out a drawer and throw the water away, little discomfort compared with knocking a hole in the wall....!

vented every time.
You should only consider condenser if you are short of space, in which case a combined washing machine/condensing dryer might be appropriate.
In every other situation , the vented dryer wins hands down. Condensing dryers work on a completely different principle, they take ages to dry the clothes and you will be left with horriffic creases.
vented dryers are better, quicker and cheaper. Okay you might have to drill a big hole in your wall ( or stick the hose out of the window) but they are far and away the best.
Incidentally you can get GAS powered tumble dryers too, in the UK.

A condenser dryer means you can combine the washing machine and dryer therefore takes up less space and there's no trailing vent pipe. They are not as quick as the vented type but they do the Job well enough. With our new born child it has our condenser is in use most of days of the week at the moment and seems to be perfectly adequate, We have a Candy washer\dryer. My recommendation is that if money or space are tight go for the condenser washer\drier if not go for the vented.

Having sold tumble dryers for the last 18 years I can assure you that there is no difference in the performance or the time it takes to dry the clothes on either a vented ot condenser dryer. Vented dryers are cheaper to purchase but you need a hole in the wall to vent the hose or buy a condenser box. If the machine is not going on an outside wall then a condenser dryer is the best option. If the machine is going in an garage or out building then a vented dryer is fine as it wont need venting as there is sufficient airflow in a garage to disperse the steam. Both system work best with clean filters & therefore the filters should be cleaned after every use. On a condensor dryer the water container should also be emptied after every load to optimise performance & the condensor unit cleaned every 6 months by running under the shower hose. If you go for a condensor dryer & it is going to be located near your sink then a lot of models now come with a waste kit, which means they can be plumb into your sink waste & therefore the water goes straight out through your sink waste & the bottle never need to be emptied. Hope this helps your decision.

I vote for the condenser because:
1) I don't want a permanent hole in the wall
2) The vent hose can get blocked with lint and needs to be disconnected and checked as it can be a fire hazard.
3) I've had three vented dryers and all of them allowed a proportion of the lint to circulate in the room after they've been used for a while - not good to be breathing this stuff. Just run a white duster around the out of reach surfaces that don't get wiped daily and you'll pick up plenty of dryer lint. I never get this with the condenser.
Yes, the condenser unit needs rinsing occasionally, but it takes maybe 30 seconds and yes, the water container needs to be emptied after each load, but it's not a major hassle to do it.

Vented is definitely quicker, more efficient and cheaper to run than a condensing dryer and personally I would go for the seperate vented dryer over the combination washer/condensator dryer everytime.
However the absolute best way to dry your clothes is the good old fashioned washing line. All you need is a bit of a breeze and your clothes are dry in no time for no cost nor environmental impact. OK if it is raining you canbe a little stuck but if you can find a good quality wooden clothes horse you can do the same job inside. Central heating on and dry clothes in a couple of hours.
Creases? Live life in the crumple zone!

I would get a separate dryer for the garage. Combi machines may have a few advantages, but I only see more disadvantages. for one thing, should something breakdown, then you have no washing machine or dryer till it is fixed. I found, when I used one, it did not dry as well as a standalone dryer, either - maybe that was the particular model or something I did wrong, I only ever used one for a few months. The other disadvantage - and a big one with a family of 4 - is you cannot get on with another wash while one load dries in the dryer,. May not be a problem in summer if you don't need the dryer, but in winter it may be a different story!

Have had both. I vote for vented. Condensers don't do a worse job but they need more attention emptying the water collector and also dealing with the gross wet/sticky fluff which collects on the condenser unit itself. It needs cleaning regularly and is a mucky job! I see below that every 6 months is recommended, if you use your tumble dryer for family wash drying then you can reckon on cleaning it every month not every 6 months!
