oh boy,thats a tough one.well,for two people to be best of friends,it needs a lot of trust and understanding.and although that should not be a problem even if one of them is in love with the other..but at the same time,i guess there will be some expectations automatically from that person's end,which when unfulfilled repeatedly might cause frustration and misunderstandings,hence resulting into a break-up eventually.

Let us say that there are two persons "A" and "B".I have certain doubts in ur question.If say A love B
1.what about B?Does he/she love or hate A?? U should have specified.
2.What kind of love A is with B.Is is the love between a girl and a boy or is it general love of human being.?
I will have to go for a research then taking different situations
A and B are two persons (of different sex) and A is in love with B.
some situations are as follows:
B also loves A
Answer is YES.They can truely and definately be the best friends.
B does not love A but does not hate as well
Answer is NO.They can be only good friends.this is because A loves B but B does not love A.So indifference is there.They can be very very good friends but not the best
B hates A
Answer is NO.They cannot even be friends.

I think the concept works on paper so to speak but a lot of this depends on how much one is in love with the other and how the person that is loved responds to that. What will happen when the person loved starts dating someone else. How is the friend in love supposed to react to that? My experiences and observations indicate that the friendship would be tested in such a way that most friendships would go down in flames.
If you ask me I believe the best bet is to work on slowing the friendship down some until the love dies down. Or you could get together with them and test romance!

Yes! best friends means no secrets. But a person is entitled to their own little secrets. Best love comes from friendship and it lasts long. So yes two people can be bestfriends even if the other one is in love.

Yes...I think so..but only if the person inlove doesn't push the other one. I was in a similar situation...she was just my friend for over ten years...then we started hanging out a lot. For the last two years...she was patient with me and I started falling for her. Now I love her too and I might pop the question soon :o)

Yes, they can and they both have to work very hard to maintain their friendship. Two people have mutual agreement and no secret between each other.At the same time they have to be honest and support each other. Their friendships are forever and never die. It is possible to achieve and carry on until the day they die.

if they don't love each others there is a problem. they will be able to share secrets but that doesn't mean they are best friend. your definition of "best friend" is incomplete. if they love each others they'll live happy all their life

but if you are in love with her/him...just let them know
and by the way...no such thing as no secrets between two people...its impossible.

yeah i think so,but if the other other one doesen,t know your inlove with them,how they gonna know?you said bestfriends means no secret and say all to eachother-so this you must also say to him/her it,s part of being bestfriends,don,t you think?
