Why did Nintendo call it a Wii?

It just sounds so wierd, and childish for some reason...

First off...the Wii DOESNT stand for anything...ESPECIALLY Wireless Interactive Interface...

Second off...the Wii has NO JAPANESE ORIGINS...It hails from no language...

The Wii was named as such that any person, from any language, calls it the same thing and it is easily understandable to everyone. there is no accent or language in the world that will distort the word Wii...and because it isnt a real word, theres no need to translate it...

For example, an american gamer could talk to a japanese gamer ((both of which dont speak any of the others language, just for this example))...they can STILL talk about the Wii...Or at least mention the name...then they could turn around and talk to a European gamer ((who speaks no English or japanese))...and they could STILL talk about the Wii...

I think its rather genuis actually...by bypassing the hurdle of language, the most powerful form of adverisement in the world ((word of mouth)) knows no bounds...

They actually did talk about the reasoning for the name Wii in an online animation available the day they announced the new name, though I don't have a link to it right now.

*The ii part of the name can either look sort of like two people or two Wii remotes.

Not in their official reasoning, but there's also the fact that Wii doesn't consist of regular words, so is unique and harder to get mixed up with other console names. GameCube was very easy to get mixed up with PlayStation or Xbox by people not so into gaming; particularly the cube/box thing. Also as a unique word, it's less likely to already be copyrighted around the world.

Because REVOLUTION would be to hard to translate or pronounce for other people. Everyone can say Wii. The people at Nintendo said that Wii was easy to pronounce and all languages can pronounce Wii.

Corrections to your query: The legitimate identify is the Wii Remote now not the Wiimote The GameCube's legitimate initials are GCN and now not NGC. Nintendo have uttered no official statement as to the origin of the name.

"Wii" sounds like a cry of happiness to me, like I'm-in-a-roller-coaster-Wii or Wii-Joe-has-asked-me-out!
