I have only been dating him for two months, so I don't want to spend a ton. But what should I get the guy I'm seeing. He plays bass guitar. He has tons of equiptment and books already. Any (sane and not sick) ideas?

A new guitar (yeah, guitar, bass strap, same thing) strap, like a good leather one, which you can get for under $45. Or you can buy him a new pack of strings, just go to Guitar Center and they'll give you all the help you need :)

A nice wide guitar strap is always nice. But if he's already got all the equipment he likes, Bass strings always need to be replaced. Nothing sounds better than fresh strings (if you don't know which ones to buy, a gift certificate works (but isn't very romantic) - however there are some new strings that are coated and some are even colored. I've been using Elixers ($60 for a set of strings, but they are "really" good sounding).

Also, if he doesn't have a wall mount for hanging is bass on the wall, I find that is much better than using a floor stand.

Being a bass player, there is a good chance he likes the band Rush. You can get their new DVD concert (Rush in Rio or R30)

Victor Wooten is also another phenomenal bass player. So music or video's by him are probably good money spent.

Purchase time at a Recording Studio (rental of a studio can range from $100.00 per hour and up). Give him this purchased time in the form of a gift certificate. Call several studios and obtain their charges - there should be a sliding scale. ANOTHER IDEA: Have a bass guitar party. Rent several guitars (you'll also need to buy some guitar string) - remove the strings and have a contest to see who can string the fastest. The winner gets a $15.00 certificate to a music store. The birthday boy will get you know who!!!

Hahhaha buy him something stupid! Like a figurine of a smurf playing a bass guitar or a giant microbe or a sock puppet. Pick something he's really into (doesn't have to be bass) and find something whacky about it. Bass players generally are freaky people. So go with something a little out there :p Make it something funny and strange and unexpected and everytime he uses it or looks at it, he'll think of you (awwww how sweet).
