No, personally I would not name my children an old name such as Gertrude or Mildred..

Guru Selkie suggested some nice names...

Katie is my favorite name for a girl...

I also like some Indian names for girls (NOT NATIVE AMERICAN, like Sitting Bull or Pooping Dog)
Indian from India...like Priti, Priyanka, Raahi, or Vidhya

I would use the names for middle names if they were family names. My grandmother is Mildred and I would use it for a middle name. My husband even suggested using the name as a first name and calling her Millie but I didn't think that would go over too well.

I wanted to name our daughter Audrey, after my grandmother (which isn't as grandmother-ish as Mildred or Gertrude), but my husband nixed the idea.

Julia Roberts named her twins, Phinnaes and Hazel and Jennifer Garner named her baby girl Violet. It sounds to me like old names are making a comeback.
