Only because the 'experts' are involved in determining the number of minutes to midnite, based on world events and everything else that goes into the risk. Of course, there will always be a 'fudge' factor and plus or minus error factor, but that's true of most everything.

The doomsday clock no longer shows just the closeness of nuclear war but also of other threats which could potntially lead to massive gobal distruction.

So in a few words maybe, almost yes.

Doomsday is an unwarranted worry.... if and when it happens, no one would be around to repent or grieve. Hope you get what I mean. Doomsday predictions have become a fashionable pastime.... we are really incorrigible. All we need to do is to identify our destructive activities and eliminate them one by one... no one even wants to make a beginning!!
