My 2 week old little girl will eat for about 10 minutes, fall asleep for about 10, then wake up wanting to eat again. She does this several times during her feedings. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

I have breastfed all four of my kids and this is very normal. All my kids are healthy the only reason you should get a little concerned is if they start to lose weight but other than that its perfectly normal. My husband thought I always fed them to make them sleep but that is just how a breatfed baby is. I think it has something to do with the mothers touch and feeling the warmth of their mommy

Yes this activity is very normal. She is eating and that is what is most important. Babies so young are so tired and are just resting as they grow. The most important factor here is that she is eating. Don't be concerned. Keep her check up's on schedule and they will check her weight. By the time she is 2 to 3 months she will start to have longer feeding periods and shorter resting periods. Remember one thing though, every baby is different. And if there are any problems the pediatrician will wave the red flag. Enjoy your new baby and best wishes!

This isn't unusual because it's hard work for a newborn to breastfeed. Things will be changing a lot in the next weeks and this time will pass. You two are just getting to know each other. Don't be concerned.

No I wouldn't consider it to be abnormal. I did read somewhere that for them to stay awake during feed, try tickling or rubbing the bottom of her foot to maintain her alert or awake. Try addressing this now or it may turn int a habit later on. Next thing you know you'll be doing 2 hr. feedings. Good Luck!

My little girl was the same too! Midwife told me not to worry and that she would get better, which she has- She should start feeding for longer by about 8 weeks.

Try to keep her awake whilst your giving the feed as you want to fill her up in one go so she can have a longer sleep.

One way is to tickle her feet.

Be strong it gets better, I almost quit but kept going and I am still breast feeding my 14 month old.

All the best

It is normal :) Just make sure that you're trying to wake her up to make her eat a bit more. Be sure to check her wet/poopy diapers each day to make sure she's having enough. That way you know she's eating enough!

My LC said some ways to keep them awake are...Undress/unswaddle them or tickle their toes.

It's normal, both my sons did that. I would usually just tickle them and then they'd start nursing again.
