No.

School is not just about academia actually. Social skills also need to be learned. Obviously it would show poor judgment to allow the GPA to fall due to the social life, but learning to find balance in life is a very important lesson.

They're going to date, no matter what. And there can be good effects on their life from that. But if you tell them not to, they're going to hide it, and make less responsible decisions, and be less likely to come to you for help with said decisions. If we lived in a sexually restrictive society, where it was uniformly understood that dating = bad, that might work. If we lived in a permissive society, where parents wouldn't flip out like they do, that would be fine too. But we live in a semi-restrictive society, where there's all different messages being flung about, so kids are going to date, no matter what. They're most likely going to feel awkward about sharing that with their parents, and their parents are probably going to flip out, so it really is just all around the worst of both sides.

Students should be discouraged from anything that they can't handle responciple, and that would take away from their learning what they need to learn. So this can be true with dating, sports, or just about anything.
