If the person is clearly uncomfortable with the question or evasive, then just change the subject and leave it alone.
Never, answer a question that could really hurt a person unless you have all the facts and know the person very well.
Sometimes it is best to avoid any question that you know will lead to an argument, who needs the stress and drama.

When the question has an answer that I haven't figured out yet. Example, what are you going to do since the divorce and the kids have grown up? Well, duh, I am going to do what ever comes my way that takes my mind OFF my before life. Before divorce and daughters getting married. lol
Serious though, I think a personal question should be left unanswered. No ones business.
