He sleeps off even before he starts sucking and does not wake up no matter what I do. And becomes restless if i lay him back on the bed. I am really worried if he is sleeping with hunger.Do babies sleep even when they r hungry?

I can't express enough how great information from Le Leche League is!!! I read the book, The womanly art of breastfeeding, and it was great! you can get the book online or just about anywhere you get other baby stuff....

REMEMBER, BREAST IS ALWAYS BEST!!!

also, contact your local le leche league group! they can be an enourmous support system for you!

Good Luck!!!!

First and foremost let me just say...relax. When your baby is hungry he will eat. There are many things you can do to help this situation. Have you tried to stimulate the baby. A cool bath, wiping his face with a cool cloth, fun music, even rubbing the bottom of his feet will help. Other things you can do is lay down with him and find suitable positions that you can breastfeed him while he sleeps. Try placing him on top of you, or even on the side. Allow him to smell your milk. This is important. Even if he is asleep gently rub your nipple across his lips, after a few moments he should open up. Make sure you are assisting him with a good latch on. Try not to bottle feed or offer a pacifier. No matter what...he is only 2 months old and babies that young sleep a lot! A visit to the doctor for a weight check will ease your mind. But give him some time, by 3 months I am sure you will see a difference.

that is VERY normal for babies when breastfed. He is 2 months old, he should start staying awake for a feeding soon. The tricks that I tried are tapping the souls of her feet and switching breasts... you need to wake him up so he finishes eating.. otherwise he will eat every 1/2 hour cause he didn't get enough.. that is very normal. the sucking motion and the warm milk puts babies to sleep.

That is rough! You need to keep trying to wake him up until he empties a breast so you can keep your milk supply up. If your breasts are never completely emptied your supply will surely suffer. Rub his feet, rub your nipple against his lips, anything you can do to get him interested in nursing. I know, easier said than done!!!

Have you tried nursing him laying down? If he wakes when you lay him down that might work.

Another trick is to undress them and tickle their feet to keep them awake.

Take a look at http://www.kellymom.com for more breastfeeding info!
