Whatever you do don't get legal aid.You get what you pay for, they are paid by the government,.have dinner with judges, are friends with all court people and are lazy...i was represented by one once.He never stopped telling me to plead guilty...why... because he got paid the same regardless of how many times we went to court...I presented all the defences and he would say oh you did a good job...i dough he ever lifted a pencil...When i got tired of fighting everybody myself i accepted a plea...The prosecutor and my lawyer where saying it was a good deal (12-18 months). The judge gave me 10 months so where was the deal for saving court costs we had negotiated...

You'll have to get a permission to read law books and past cases at the courts library and put allot of time in it.Ask basic questions to others about where to look but be warned nobody will really help you without $$$.If you do get legal aid tell I'm you just want legal advice and his only job is to sit there, shut up,no plea's,no changing your mind only to support you in avoiding the court traps and repeating your written defence to the courts....big words they use in court to get you mixed up so the trial goes their way...there are at least 3 i frequently encounter in court still don't know what they mean.

Defending yourself is not as good as getting a cheap lawyer but way better than getting legal aid.

If you do get legal aid take everything he says like he was your worst help...just tell him to help you avoid the traps and fire him and take a new one if he does give you a hard time...if you want tell him your getting a new layer and see him plead with you not too.Just to prove my point that he doesn't respect your right to choose. He'll want you to sit there and listen to him defend your case in trial.Put your defence in writing and tell him to present each item per say.Its your defence that you want him to repeat in court ,not his while avoiding traps...

Copy this text fast because it will be deleted.Nobody likes the truth. Not even me.I might even delete it.

Best thing is get a cheap lawyer and research your defence at the court library to help him with your case.Do your own research you get what you pay for.Make sure you write down the case number and name, law references and pages..etc. You should photocopy everything to make your lawyers job easier. You can give a paid lawyer allot more say, your paying him.No conflicts of interest.

Depends on what your legal issue is. If it is a criminal issue, contact the court or court clerk and try to have one appointed to represent you. For other issues, you might try to find an attorney willing to represent you at no cost (aka pro bono). That's not always easy though, but it is worth a shot.

Contact your local bar association and the Legal Aid Society. They can refer you to free and low-cost attorney services. Good luck!

depends on the issue and where you live...here in nyc there are public defenders for criminal issues housing lawyers (free) and other best place to start is at the courthouse or court (civil, criminal, family) that has juridiction over your issue
