Do I have a virus or something or did I just mess up a setting somewhere? Our PC is pretty old and kind of wheezes along, but I don't know if that would have anything to do with it or not. How do I stop this from happening every time I turn on the computer? Thanks!

Start ---> Run
Write "msconfig"
Choose "Startup" tab
If you found "System 32" remove the checking beside it

go to start -> program -> startup, see what on the list.. is there some folders on that shortcut list.. if yes, is it the folder that you see opened when you turn on the monitor.. if it is true, just delete that shortcut..
if it didn't solve the problem maybe i'm afraid it's a virus activity..

Check your startup settings. If nothing there is changed, you probably have a virus. I had the same thing happen to me and I had a virus.

Try this, while you have a folder open, on top select tools or options “folder options” select vew,
Scroll down until you find “restore previouse windows folder at log on” uncheck it and apply.
Or find folder options at start\control penel\folder options

Sorry i dont use WindowsXP im currently on VISTA
