MMORPG forced to change its name for Burning Crusade
US game developer Quest Online has announced the name change for its developing game “Crusade” to “Alganon” due to the reason that the name of this MMORPG is too similar with World of Warcraft- Burning Crusade.
CEO of Quest Online David Allen said the name change would be a successful tool for Alganon to distinguish itself from others in this competitive market. The company is still developing Alganon, the estimated time for it to be on the market is 2008 or 2009.
Alganon absorbs the merits of other MMORPG, and creating even more features and fun from the foundation of MMORPG. “Every effort we put into Alganon will show players the world of Alganon, its history, and what it will bring to players all around the world and how Alganon will bring MMORPG to a whole new level”, David Aleen said.

This is not exactly "bad influence" as you put it. First of all, that other game is coming close to infringing on WoW's extremely valuable franchise. They took the name first....simple as that. Since Blizzard likely paid them to change their name rather than forced them (lawsuits are expensive and cause rancor among companies that often cooperate on various projects) this is hardly draconian.

Finally, 90% of MMO that comes out is TERRIBLE. They ALL claim they are the next great thing and that they will build on what made other games fun. However, almost none do this. Blizzard is an extremely rare exception. They made their game a success by carefully listening to their customer base and making a good faith attempt to make the game do what their customers want. Almost all MMO that fail (the vast majority of them) do so because they refuse to listen to their customers, arrogantly assume what the suits want is what will sell and then look dumbfounded when all their development money disappears down a sinkhole. Alganon might be an exception, but I won't hold my breath....especially since Quest Online is a bunch of nobodys in the gaming market.

The point here is Blizzard is hardly a large corporate monolith, strong arming a more talented, but less funded little guy. They became successful using no other tactic than by supplying an extremely superior product....something Blizzard has been doing for a long, long time, with various games, I might add.
