CAN'T BE CONTROLLED.
WHY DO YOU WORRY SO MUCH.

I've been going to the movies for forty something years now, and I would say, "No, I don't think sex in the movies is increasing." At least not in the movies "youths" are supposed to go to. And I've lived through several decades in which people were worried the movies were going to ruin our morals. (Well, we did elect George W. Bush at least once.)

But if you are worried about movies affecting youth, why aren't you more concerned about violence? That DOES strike me as something that's different today. From the ads on TV recently, to all the videos I saw for rent and on sale at the video store today, I was struck by how many truly horrific films are out there. By "horrific" I mean films in which the main story line and entertainment value apparently comes in seeing innocent human beings who made the "mistake" of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. (I'm talking about The Hills Have Eyes, Hostel, The Devils' Rejects, Wolf Creek, Chainsaw Massacre, etc., etc.). The sexual equivalent of these films would be considered pornography.

These types of films did not used to be so graphic, and they were considered cult or midnight films. Now they are considered mainstream fare. (Even the mainstream films are pretty strong--such as Apocalypto.) I saw on this site the other day where a ten year old boy was complaining that his mother had taken him to see The Hills Have Eyes and he had nearly gotten sick. What kind of parent does that?

But I'm not criticizing peoples' taste in movies--I'm just noticing a couple of trends. 1) There are a lot of graphically violent movies out there, and I'm not sure why. I'm wondering if 9-11 and/or the Iraq war has sparked a taste for violence in the popular culture. 2) As usual, people are complaining about too much sex instead of too much violence when the evidence is in the other direction.

Hey, Its a simple reason what I have studied is that anything which is produced will be demanded. If these kind of movies will come, they will be seen. It all happened like this....lets suppose many years b4 when these kind of movies were not there, one film maker descided to make a film having sex scenes to make it unique amongst the others. So when his movie came, people started seeing it, maybe in isolation for the 1rst time but just bcoz it was unique, they saw it and liked it. So gradually, other makers entered in this segment and hence it became open.

Now-a-days the youth is open, u r open, i am open, we r open.
so its coming naturally. 1rst time u see nudity, u feel bad. 2nd time it becomes exciting & the 3rd time u r lured to it. So it depends upon us, THE YOUTH, we can control it. IF THE BUYING STOPS THE MAKING CAN TOO. But niether of this will happen as there r millions of reasons behind it. But any ways i think this will satisfy ur need. If u wanna talk more on this, fell free to talk. I am Shekhar singh my ID is shekhar_247@yahoo.co.in

Yes, sex in movies is increasing.
I think that most sex in movies can be shown to younger (like 12 years old) children as long as it's explained in context, with the explanation that Hollywood depictions of love and romance are not always played out in real life situations. For kids younger than 12, they probably shouldn't be seeing a movie with graphic sex in it. If it is a gratutitous scene, then the dvd can be shown with the scene forwarded.

I don't buy into the idea that sex in movies will for sure cause sexualized children as long as the parents or guardians are sure to talk to kids about sex (when the time is right) and sex in movies.

BTW, it was worse in the late seventies early eighties. The AIDS scare is no longer quieting writersand European markets areopen to the idea of nudity and sexuality in mainstream films.
