Ok, first in answer to some of these weak answers, San Jose is not a small market team. The San Jose market has more multi-millionaires then any other including New York or LA. The median income of the San Jose area is higher then any other in the country. They have three of the top 10 vote getters for last years MVP, they have two of the best goalies in the NHL over the last three seasons, they have two players in the running for rookie of the year, they have plenty of star talent.

The problem is they are still considered an expansion team. Hockey is a sport of tradition even more so then baseball. If a team hasn't been around for a generation or two it's too new for most hockey fans. Also San Jose fans haven't really spread through the country the way fans of other teams have. It's easy to find Rangers fans and Bruins fans because those teams have been around long enough to build up a good following so when those fans move into other areas of the country they stay loyal to the team and you'll see them around.

San Jose won't get the proper respect it deserves until they win the Cup. Then they will have a more national presence.

That's just it! Who ARE the San Jose Sharks? The national media make teams famous, and lets face it, the Sharks just do not get the attention like teams like the Rangers, Bruins and Canadiens. Another thing against them is that they are a small market team. If, and when the Sharks get the elite players like some other teams and become more than a one year wonder, then and only then will they get national recognition!

Because they're in San Jose...it's not a big hockey town. It's not like kids grow up playing hockey on frozen lakes during the winter around here, so unless your dad was into hockey, chances are you aren't going to be into it. Plus, the major sports network is on the East Coast. And, hockey in general just isn't a very popular sport compared to football or baseball.

First off they are on the West Coast.

Secondly they have never won the Cup.

Other than that they do get recognition but if you want national recognition we need to get hockey national recognition.

wow the guy above is an idiot and obviously knows nothing about hockey. sharks have no elite players? we only have the hart winner and mvp and former #1 draft pick joe thornton. we have the rocket winner in cheechoo. we have 2 of the best goalies in the league. our 2nd line can compete with the 1st line of most teams. yea we dont get much coverage cuz SJ isnt a hockey town and its not cold or anything.

West coast teams dont get much coverage in the east, where the majority of media is centered. Great team, but thats probably why they dont get much attention because everyones a sleep while theyre playing.
