same reason you have to have their food in a different place
they have very sensitive noses, so they can smell urine and poop stronger than we humans. most cats don't like the feel of the litter on the bottom of their tender paws, would rather use the good old out doors.
that's why they go next door to use the potty
cleaner air, odd but true
Lol lol lol

My cats are weird too...if the box is not to their liking they will poop elsewhere just to let me know..and I have one cat who will actually climb up on the bed and pee on me! Maybe if you got some finer grained litter that would not be as hard on the feeties like one other answerer suggested. Good luck!

While humans think that they have a pet cat, in reality it is otherwise. She is controlling two families, one is feeding her and is managing her poop. Ofcourse the ones dealing with her poop are not well trained but they will have to learn.

There must be better dirt over there. Actually, I have noticed the same thing. There may be something in fertilizer that attracts cats.

Haha I love kitties, just let the cat do what he wants, (it can't be causing to much harm.)

maybe your litter box has perfume and it fouls their poop scent.
