Do not get a Toshiba. Their life expectancies are quite short. My Toshiba lasted a year. I would get a Dell Inspiron E1405, the computer I have. It has a 2.0GHZ processor which is good for playing games, a 120 GB hard drive so you have space for playing games, and a 2 GB memory which allows more info to be displayed on a page. Perfect for gaming and surfing. Only costed me around $1600. Again, do not buy a Toshiba. You don't get what you pay for.

If I were you I would definitely do some shopping, don't rush into anything. The reason being is everytime I go to the store I see laptops on sale for cheap. Nice ones too, I would definitely search online retailers as well as brick and mortar stores. Another thing you should take a look at is staples, office depot, and other office supply stores. Sometimes they get so desperate to sell their hardware they drop the prices very low and some really nice stuff. Hope this helps...

I have a Toshiba A105-S2231 and I absolutely love it.
It has all the power I need for light gaming and easily handles the internet with a high-speed (cable) connection, and I picked it up for $850.00 (US). You might also want to look at the Qosmio, which is a bit more expensive, but an excellent computer as well.

Go to the computer shop. Ask for
"What is the cheapest Dual Core laptop you have?"
The processor will either be:
Centrino Duo
Core Duo
Core 2 Duo
Turion X2
If its not one of those, don't buy it. But the computer salesman should know this and once you ask for cheapest dual core laptop, he'll give you the best one.
Buy a two year warranty at least, if not more.

I love my Sony's. They are smaller so I can take them with me, and they look pimp.
If anything make sure to get something with either ATI or NVidia for its video (gaming) and at least 1gb of RAM.
MAC is a good choice, so few people have them nobodys cared to make viruses for them, however the video chip isnt so great, so gaming will be a little comprimised.

Toshibas break and are complete crap. Trust me on that, my friend went through dozens of them and he's a computer fixing expert! If I were you, Id go with HP. Their laptops are made to last and tend to be more impressive than most.
