You know I think there are times that certain members of the government are not honest, and there is much room for improvement, but they do MUCH better than most other countries. Just look at the media here compared to other countries.

As for accurate reports, I think my answer above covers that. We should always expect accuracy.

The "government" ?? If you are a liberal American, I presume you are talking about George Bush. And, by "honest", you are probably talking about full disclosure.

As much as we like to daydream about utopia, the average citizen can't handle the truth. The benefit of living in America is that we can cover our eyes and live to see another day.

I certainly don't want to know the full scope of the Iranian or North Korean threat. And I don't want to see the video of hangings / beheadings in Iraq on prime time. I pay taxes for the defense and intelligence budget to make sure that someone else worries about that stuff all day while I dink around on my Japanese laptop & sip fine Italian wine from a cheap glass made in Taiwan. It's good to be ignorant sometimes. I do resent paying taxes to buy chips & cigarettes for white trash broads with 5 kids and an alcoholic boyfriend. But, I'll leave my sisters out of this!

i don't think the government is ever truely honest with the people. Generally for the best. But the Bush Admin. is so dishonest I am truely worried. They can't tell you the truth about anything, even the little things. Tony Snow recently said the White House had nothing to do with the mission accomplished banner on the carrier. The White House has already admitted they sent the banner and said it was a mistake. Come on guys, wake the hell up.

No way, Jose! I put that in for all the illegal immigrants that they lie about not being here. Move over a bit Pedro, I'm trying to use my lap top.
Not only do they lie, they make it very difficult to make a good decission when voting by tricking up the bill legislation so you can't tell what is really going on.
We are being skewed, blued and tatooed by our government. In fairness, if we all did what we were suppose to do (called law and order) life would be sweet.
We as Americans are a far cry from that right now.
America is on the big FALL.

No govt. is honest with it's citizen. but, it is absolutely correct that we pay the govt. taxes, and they are duty bound to render accurate reports and be transparent in all their dealings. They are supposed to take input as to how to spend the taxes for development of country, from the people, whom they serve.
They are nothing but public servants, but, they behave like our bosses, immediately after they take the public mandate. This is the tragedy of all the countries. The public is not properly organized, to take the govt. to task for sins of ommission and commission

I don't know what country you're from but my impression is that no government is honest with its citizens.
In my country they try to get away with only giving part information. The press has caught them out lots of times. Also events and press research has proved many times that our government actually lies to us when it suits them.
Big business is the same - maybe worse.

politician and honesty has never went hand in hand...so no, they are not honest

It would be a new and pleasant experience if our representatives found their selves in a position where they had to tell their constituency the truth and could be held accountable for their actions....
