DON'T USE STICKY TRAPS!!! The rats will run onto them, get stuck, get frightened then make the worst racket that you can imagine; you won't be able to sleep all night after any rats get caught. Use the spring loaded traps, they break the neck causing instant death. The most effective means that I have found is to:
1. put on a pair of new latex or nitrile gloves.
2. spread peanut butter (chunky style) on the bait area of a spring trap.
3. wrap the peanut butter and bait holder in sewing thread.
4. tension the bail, and lock into position.
5. place next to the wall with the bait end facing the wall
This technique will cause the rats to strugle to get all the bait, and it will position the trap so that the trigger is in or near the rats natural path, since they like to run along the walls.
Also, make sure that you eliminate any possible nests (piles of clothes or newspapers etc). And remove any dense growth from your property (favorite outdoor nesting grounds)
Also, the stench of rats that have crawled away to die when they have been poisoned is horrendous, so don't use poison.

First you need to find out how they are getting in and seal it up now you can start killing them. I would suggest an exterminator as they will help you deal with feces which can make you sick. A dog will kill rats but get the extermination done first and get the dog when the house is clean use it more as a deterrent. you also need to eliminate all rat temptations places to hide and food.
Good luck ! I'm giving you a star and hopefully others will to to get your question on the main page and viewed more often. Please others readers help out and give a star.

We only went by this similar challenge. i have lived right here for 3 years, and this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days we had a rat inhabitants explosion in our workshop. i imagine we gained the conflict, besides the undeniable fact that, by doing ideal right here: using glue traps- set them alongside the perimeters of walls, and everywhere you word rat poop. Rats persist with a urine path and could bypass virtually a similar way everytime they go by a community. you could placed a blob of peanut butter in the middle to appeal to them, in case you need. i found that in case you position the capture the position there is poop, you're going to seize a rat. And, to target to be quite humane, we did kill the rats that were stuck to the capture, so that they does no longer die a days lengthy death. Snap-traps - they are disgusting yet efficient. We baited with peanut butter blobs. WATCH YOUR hands!!!! Poison 'logs'- i do not save in recommendations the call, yet they have seeds in them and are yellow. keep in mind, even as think ofyou've got Norway rats, and that i had roof rats (I say that because you stated yours are burrowing) in case you do not stay in a Southern coastal state, even as think ofyou've got Norways. some Norways are information against warfarin, so that you've gotten to apply quite a few distinct poisons to confirm outcomes. do not enable the poison grant run out, and set glue traps interior of a similar position in case you do seize a rat there. Be consistent. We stuck just about 20 babies and tremendous adults by doing this. i for my section does no longer waste my $ on an exterminator, yet in case you're literally not seeing outcomes, you would possibly want to favor to bypass there. sturdy success! playstation for my section i imagine the ultrasonic ingredient is a load of you recognize what ;0) so save you money.

Victor the legend of Mouse and Rat Traps has come out recently with electronic Mouse & Rat Traps. I just bought both. I have not set up the Rat trap yet but the mouse trap WORKS FANTASTIC!
Two traps two mice per night! No MISS, NO Fuss, easy to set up easy to empty and reset. The recent cold snap in the Pacific NW has brought them to the door. My new electronic traps take'em out! They work on batteries, shock the little buggers, and it's very effective to date. No slipping away with the bait, no guts and eyeballs to deal with, and no waiting days for them to bleed to death from pioson and die in the walls of your house.

I love ratties!!! I have raised them and bred them for years!!....so........you didn't hear this from me..but if you go to the store and buy those really sticky traps (lay it flat, don't form it into a box) then put a good sized glob of peanut butter right in the middle...they love that stuff!! they are going to get stuck on the trap while trying to get the peanut butter. please dispose of them in the most humane manner you can can find(and yes i am well aware that a sticky trap is not very humane to begin with!)...Good Luck!!...

All an exterminator will do is bait some traps with peanut butter and use the sticky traps. I would only use the traps with peanut butter.

Rats love peanut butter. Use them for the traps. Use sticky sheets to trap them and then dispose of them. Best of luck!
