i.e. many questions posted about the socalled 'ignorance of Americans' however many americans angrily respond that it is a stereotype and not the real face of America. However ask them about australia (as i have) and they mention kangaroos and koala bears. are they not stereotyping as well?

Well, don't you have 'roos and koalas? We notice the things about other cultures that are most different from the things familiar to us. We know you have all the modern cities, too, but that doesn't stand out.

No I think those are cute animals and that is a compliment to mention a Kangaroo, Americans love the Aussies I do, I have many friends in Queensland Brisbaine, Sydney, and all the way across the Continent in Broom. Actually they are just about the same as we are, except they have better immigration laws ha ha.
We have many that stereotype in the whole world, as a description of what we are speaking of, we use those symbols. But all countries have bigotry and prejudice is human, we just need to get past that bubba and we here in America are trying our best to do that. At least the younger generations are, because we are teaching the rights of it all, this is what we must do, stop the hate and the differences that don't matter like color of skin or eyes, that is complete vanity and brainwashing, you are only as beautiful as your thoughts.

I'm an American and I don't believe in stereotypes. Maybe your confusing ignorance from lack of knowledge. School didn't teach me much about the continent farthest away from us. We know what we see on TV. All we got from you guys was Steven Irwin and such. In case you don't know, we don't really get a lot of television from Australia. And how many HUMAN BEINGS of any nationality are going to do in depth research about something that care nothing about.

Ignorance is lack of knowledge not to be confused with stupid meaning having the knowledge and choosing not to use it. Everyone is ignorant is some respect it is impossible to know or remember everything.

My only response is what do you know about the country of Niger. Is it as much as about the USA?

I don't think so.

So before anyone complains about how much or how little Americans know about their particular country they need to know as much about every other country in the world as they do about the US. Does such a person exist, NO!

Everybody is involved in some sort of stereotyping. When someone says that they have never stereotyped before in their lives, they are lying.

Face facts. America is more important than Australia. When you are born in the most powerful and richest nation in the world, your frame of reference is going to be limited to just your sphere of existance.

Americans have no desire to inform themselves of Australia because they don't NEED to.

I am Australian. But I'm not naive enough to expect or care about Americans wanting to care about my country Australia or me as an Australian. Let it go. We are not that important globally, mate. We just aren't. America is. Whether you like it or not.
