I think anything is possible. If you look at the year Earnhardt died at Daytona all the hype turned to his son Jr to win it the following year. And he did.....
I think games could be rigged to fit the oppertunity. Such as last years superbowl, Did Pitt realy win it or where the refs looking out for Bettis?
No one will ever know forsure but money does talk and there is way too much money floating around in american sports today!
Good question!

It would be rather difficult to rig a game. As to the Yankees winning the World Series, come on it's not the Mets. The Yankees winning the World Series is nothing out of place, no reason to think it is fixed. Now the Patriots winning IS suspicious. Come on the St. Louis Rams finally plays a game that was about defense? Get real. They were winning by outscoring opponents. A what 17-14 game or something as silly as that is a little strange.

To the one who wants to RANT but not give a name here is a few points. Bettis goes HOME to Detroit to win the Superbowl, after 10 YEARS in Pittsburgh. Only title to his name. Oh and as to the other idea of WHY Pittsburgh, they are one of the top teams in following. The Cowboys are about the only other team up there like that. Not sure why the Seahawks would be the other team though. Look at Elway suddenly winning two Superbowls before he retired. I've been suspicious of fixing for awhile. Yeah it would be really difficult to rig the games, but difficult and impossiable aren't the same.

To Sammy the wannabe- the officating WAS fair. Look at that fumble the Steelers recovered, oh wait that was an incomplete pass even after the WR took 2 or 3 steps, which normally establishes a catch. Also they showed how all the calls were correct if you watch the game close you can see it. The only two that were truly questionable were the Pass Interfernce, which was a CORRECT CALL, just normally not called, and the call against Hassleback. I thought that call was silly BUT hey they say it was right.

To the cub the losing team CAN throw a game. Just need ONE player. For instance Superbowl 30. It was Steelers vs. Cowboys. Game MVP was Larry "What happened to me" Brown. He made 2 INTS, but anyone could have made those catches with that Bum O'Donnell throwing at him. No Steelers around him, just him. Seriously watch the replays and you will be shocked.

C'mon man...are you serious?

Well...if you want an actual answer...

Sports is a business...this we know.

The bottom line is business is money...this we know.

IF sports were rigged...don't you think that it would have made more sense that the Giants or the Jets were RIGGED to win the super bowl that year....seeing how they are from NY?

AND...if the NFL was really rigged...wouldn't it make sense to have the two biggest markets in the super bowl on a regular basis? How come the NY teams aren't any good? Why hasn't there been a team in L.A.? Why the heck would New England be in the Super Bowl and win 3 out of 5 yrs?? I'm sure that they are pleased with the story of a "NFL dynasty" if you can call it that...but do you really think that the New England area is the market that brings in the most money for the NFL...or is the market with the largest potential? Why the heck would Seattle and Pittsburgh play for the title?? Yeah...there is a lot of money there huh??
Why is it that the two most popular baseball markets aren't winning the world series every year?? NY and BOS....sure htey spend a lot of money to bring in bg names...but STL? C'mon now...
What about b-ball...lets not leave that out...why aren't the Lakers and Clippers and Bulls etc. playing for a title every year??
AND YES...THE DIAMONDBACKS WON THE W.S. IN 2001!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE LAKERS WON THE NBA TITLE!!!!!! AND N.E. WON THE SUPER BOWL!!!!! Why wouldn't any of the chapms actually be from N.Y?????

NO...SPORTS IS NOT RIGGED!!!!

When I think of your question, I wonder if it is possible that alot of these professional players who are probally very active in their under privilege communities. Probally had the opportunity to witness people who went thru the destruction, and the strength these people showed in the face of adversity, which in turns makes them stronger to know just how good they have it and how much they can give back by having a positive effect.
I was in New Orleans during this period, and I heard first hand stories. Don't listen to the bad stuff the news media said. Listen to how a 13 yr boy who basically stole a bus from the School board to move 50 or so people to a safe location..
How a 45 year old lady stayed behind because her mother had no means of transportation to leave and had to spend several days in her attic with 4 kids and her 77 yrs old mother...
You cant help but feel bad for a system that failed and how you have to do something good for all these folks that deserve it.

Sorry but just my thoughts I hope u can understand what I mean !

No, there are too many variables for a football game to be rigged. Look at the Pats vs. Chargers last Sunday. Look at how the Lions beat the Steelers and thus lost a potential first draft pick. Look at how Romo fumbled the snap on an easy field goal, but came close to running it in. How could have anyone planned for all that to happen?! Besides, when sports are manipulated it's usually something very subtle-points shaving, etc. that doesn't necessarily affect who wins or loses.

I had never thought that they were rigged until this year. It sure looks like the NFL did everything they could to ensure that the Saints made it to the playoffs. There were some pretty questionable calls throughout the season that conveniently helped the Saints along.

Guess what? The Yankee didn't win the world series in 2001. The Arizona Diamondbacks won in 2001. Kinda blows a hole in your little theory, doesn't it?
As far as the Patriots, have you ever heard of Tom Brady? He started playing for the Pats that year. He's universally recognized as one of the best playoff and pressure quarterbacks in NFL history.
As far as the Saints, let's see, maybe Drew Brees, comeback player of the year candidate; Reggie Bush, offensive rookie of the year candidate; Marques Colston, also offensive rookie of the year candidate and Sean Peyton, coach of the year candidate had something to do with it? They call came to the Saints this season.
Your theory isn't grounded in facts at all. How much do you know about sports and sports history? Not much, it seems.
Conspiracy theories are stupid and they're a great way to make women NOT want to have sex with you.

We will see what the refs do @ the next game?
I remember one game but I never watched all the Saints game anyways against the Falcons where the calls were very questionable and Atlanta should have won.

I thought the same thing that year but a lot of people told me that I just being "weird". And this is to everybody that said it can't happen, well it did happen The white soxs blew the world series(Wayyyyy back) And why is so hard to believe that it could happen.

No. The saints are in because they have completely over-hauled their team in one year. New head coach, new QB, Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, AND they played ON THE ROAD ALL SEASON LAST YEAR!!! The reason New Orleans is as good as they are is because of the crap they have endured and the appreciation they have for their new found success.
