Dollar. Sterling (English pound) is sort of a cursive 'L' with a line across it.

It is the symbol of the United States dollar, the greenback, the buck . . . The Sterling is the British currency and it has a different symbol and equals about $1.97 (US!) right now.

£ is a pound sign, used for the currency abbreviated as GBP.
