It's illegal for an employer to ask you on an application about your criminal background.

It's not illegal for them to do a background check on you. (I'm not sure why they would...)

You shouldn't have any problems. Maybe if you where going into a different field per-say law enforcement your backround might come back to haunt you. But Automotive you should be alright. If you get your BA degree you'll be five steps ahead of the average
JOE SMUCKATELLY thats worked as a greasemonkey doing the dirtywork for years. Even if intially you have a hard time getting hired by a major dealership FORD, HONDA, dont sweat it. Work for a private small buissness dealership for a couple years continue to pursue your education, build your resume, get certificates and you land that good job. Words to the wise don't get your BA as an automotive then spend the rest working on cars thats "backwards husslin." Get you Ba and supplement with a AA in another field so you can keep your shirt clean and work in an office and make the Big $$$.
Get your Ba as an Automive technician and AA in accounting so you can be a manager in the Budgeting/Finance department at General ford. Good Luck

If a small business is hiring you, you often have a good chance of not being asked those sorts of questions. You might have a hard time getting hired by a dealership.
