At the same time you flip the < symbol.
2-3x is greater than 8, AND
2-3x is less than -8.
You have 2 seperate equations and you solve each for X.
Note that you will flip the <,> symbol again in getting the solution.
2-3x > 8
-3x > 6
-x > 2......(.now flip the symbol when negating both sides..)
x < -2

The same thing happens on the other side.
2-3x < -8
-3x < -10
-x < -10/3
x > 10/3

Remember
| x | > y implies -y > x > y
| x | < y implies -y < x < y

case 1:
2 - 3x > 8
-3x > 8-2
-3x > 6
-x > 6/3 = 2
multiply both side by -1

x < -2 ( Change the sign > o < when when both sides are multiplied by -1)

Similarly solve the another case
2 - 3x < -8
-3x < -10
3x > 10 ( Multiply both side by -1 , thus change < to >)
x >10/3
thus the solution
10/3 < x <-2

To solve the problem you would set up two equations...

2-3x>8 and 2-3x<-8

You flip the sign when the number is negative.
Then solve for x, plug both answers in and see which one(s) work :]

this translates to
2-3x>8 or 2-3x<-8
