I think some of them are seriously for real, but some are purely for entertainment. They even have a bunch of the bad singers sing a certain song after they are finished humiliating themselves as soon so they can show that one entire song strung with clips of them at the end of the show...for entertainment? hm....

I find it really hard to believe that these contestants families have heard them sing and allowed them to go on national television and humiliate themselves. However, I do think that some of them are real.
