Well like any thing if someone is just not interested then they are turned off.

Pull them out. Buy going to there level and building them up.
Make it fun. Stay 10 steps ahead so that you are just as prepared as they are with questions; you have the answers.

Make eye contact and always make sure to thank them for there interest.

There are two types of motivation for learning. The first, intrinsic motivation, is the desire to gain knowledge for no other reason than the knowledge itself. This can be fostered by allowing the "student" a variety of opportunities to study what interests them. Students need to know that the accumulation of knowledge is the process of self actualization, which, in the end is the goal of life.

The second form of motivation is extrinsic. This is the type of motivation most prevalent. Here we offer rewards (candy, grades, praise, etc.) for the performance of educational tasks. This type of motivation can lead to intrinsic motivation.

It is important to provide access to a variety of materials and sources as well as topics. It is important to start where the "student" is. Then, from that starting point you can make connections which will make each additional topic more important and therefore more interesting to the student.

Learning as an experience or an applied science.

math makes no sense unless you see a need for it, teach it with natural science history, so it is needed to answer a question , or solve a problem , Make a lesson intelligent, entertaining. I had an history teacher who would mix art , anecdotes, and real description of clothing and period related small event, created a set for historical dates showed us painting or artifacts of that period , found movies and documentaries , as part of a lesson , we had botanics outdoors , we made books of plant samples etc
the practical was always part of the theoretical , all subjects should be an experience a discovery ,it takes time but the lesson is memorable

The best teachers I've had over the years are the ones who love the subject they are teaching. I failed (miserably, I might add) Spanish three times in college, and so decided to try French. My French teacher had a love of languages - he not only taught several languages already, but he was also taking a class for yet another language for his own enjoyment!

To generate interest in learning, you must be interested in your subject matter. Find ways to create passion for the curriculum within yourself, and most of your students will be caught up in your enthusiasm. :)

Use humor to make things seem more interesting, apply whatever you're teaching to things that are important in your students' lives. Ex.: When teaching teens about the dangers of cigarrettes, I reminded the students about how smoking causes wrinkled lips and gives ladies man-like voices. My students didn't really care about their health, but when I started talking about their physical appearance and vanity, you could have heard a pin drop.
Money and vanity are very good inspiring angles to take.
With younger students, change your technique often to keep their interest. Use visual one day, audio another, sense of smell or touch on another, change locations (take them outside), form a Q&A circle for a class discussion on the subject, etc. But IMO humor is the most important factor in keeping students' interest at any age.

Interest for learning must be generated by learning itself. Unless one tastes the joy of learning, he cannot go further in learning. The Process of learning must be in such a way it must simultaneously generate interest. Just as a sweety honey waters your mouth as soon as you tast it. The apatite's of learning must be ignited by learning itself.

see teaching is a great art.every body cannot be good teacher.if teacher has good knowledge of the subject, intrest for teaching to students, dedication for society, sincerity for learning.efforts for teaching ,these few things do wonder.if teacher takes pain to explain subject by telling story like phenomena he /she is suceseful teacher.the students easily start learning and respeting teacher. the communication gap eradictes.teachers should try to teach students in intresting way.like if you are explaning that table of 9 can be remmbered by understanding, students will love to learn. for example 9x1=9,or 9x9=81,means whole table of 9 and its totel of every figure is always 9 . so these are intresting tips for students. teacher has to do labor for it
