It is called laziness...also, spelling is no longer required in schools. Years ago when I spoke to my daughter's teacher about the child's spelling I was told that the spelling didn't matter as long as the "concept" was understood by the student. To which I replied "But if I can't understand the answer how am I to determine whether or not the concept has been understood". She couldn't give me an answer for that one...

Probably not. In today's world, everything is about speed. The first to answer a question usually gets the 10 points from Yahoo, so everyone wants to type as fast as they can, instead of taking their time. Its also where the internet shorthand came from, since a lot of people use "instant" messaging. And people don't realize that a well formed, grammatically correct question will get them a better answer than a thrown together question with no information. This is becoming a common complaint at Answers, but I don't think anyone is listening unless they already take their time and use the spell check. People need to slow down some.

I SO agree. I'm just afraid that now, in our hectic world, people are so rushed that no one really cares about proper spelling and grammar. It's also instant messaging. There are abbreviations for almost everything and quite a few words are spelled phonetically. But, like in every generation, things change and what is incorrect to us becomes a non issue with the younger ones. I wonder what things will be like 10 years from now!

Bina, I wonder too. I think sometimes online, people are just plain rushing to get their messages typed. Some people are probably at work, using the computer when they should not be, and they are hurrying to finish what they're writing before the boss catches them.
Otherwise, I'd have to think the schools are not doing a good job teaching spelling and grammar, and I don't want to believe that...
I'd like to think that when people are composing business or formal correspondence, Spellcheck is activated.

Well because I type in a hurry as I think and don't bother with spellcheck as a matter of pride, I learned to write and spell without it but then when you are up in the middle of the night stuff happens, and I'm mildly dyslexic, something my algebra teacher never could figure out :P

I noticed that the spell check doesn't always work in Answers you can click it and it just keeps running. I think it may be happening to other people too.

Some people are more serious than others. I try to relate to people on their terms. I used my "Check Spelling" for this answer.
