I actually Simon is the best judge in American Idol. He has the ability to see a real star, he always predict things right, except for last year AI, he got it Taylor Hicks wrong. The reason why people hate them so much is because he's too straightforward, he speaks out whatever he thinks is right, and does not really care about others' feeling. But I think that is an interesting point about him

A lot of people hate him because he tells it like it is. Randy does too but Simon is known to do the to the best singers out there. And, most people say that he doesn't know anything about singing when the people he disses are very good singers.

Because Simon Cowl enjoys being the heavy, and the audience accepts him in that role.

For the first season I can understand why Simon was so cruel since HE was paying for the recording contract of the winner. He had every right and expectation to be tough and make sure that he got his money's worth out of it. He set the pattern as the shows "bad guy" early on and the "public" envisioned by the entertainment industry likes to think that the audience wants their characters on their favorite shows to stay with their role.

Since Simon was cruel, he has to remain cruel, or his show's ratings might suffer. Since he was painted as the cruel one everyone expects him to be cruel so they are ready to lash out at him. But, since the audience knows Simon is the cruel one they aren't shocked by someone lashing out at him so they aren't offended by it. If someone lashes out at Paula then the show's ratings could suffer because the audience would hate the person who lashed out at Paula. If that same person actually made it onto the show then people could vote against them because they were offended by their outburst, not based on their actually performance.

Simon makes the perfect scapegoat, because if a contestant chews him out then few of the viewers will hold that against the contestant and the audience won’t hold it against the show because secretly they agree with the contestant.

The entertainment industry doesn’t so much a have such a low opinion of their audience as that they can’t afford to alienate anyone.

Simon actually seemed to be displaying some kindness and compassion last night. Who knows, maybe he had the flu or something.

In any case, he still managed to make a jerk out of himself while making fun of that one kid's eyes that were so large. He deserved to be slapped for his remark especially since that kid might actually have a genetic disorder. His features look vaguely similar to some I have seen in genetic disorders. Shame on Simon for being so cruel. Hope Simon doesn't lose his looks some day. He is far too shallow to be able to survive if that ever happens.

When it is down to the top contenders, although they can both be harsh, it's of little lasting consequence. But the audition shows that are airing right now are simply ugly and I won't watch. These kids who come in, they say it's their dream, and they get trashed and mocked by these adults. Not necessary, not nice. And then later in the season, they wax poetic over "the dream". If they have to fill the time slot, following previous contestants careers would be much more enjoyable.

I think the show would not be what it is if it weren't for Simon!
People keep saying they hate him...he just speaks his mind where other people wouldn't dare to say that, and I think he is admired for that and a lot of people might simply be just jealous!
Granted, a few things he says are just plain mean, but I do believe that's part of what his role is supposed to be and the producers expect it...ratings!!!

I don't hate simon. A lot of the fatties, *******, blackies, and so on appear on the show expecting a free ride just because others of their kind have made it to hollywood. Simon tells it like it is and sends them home to momma. So what if they're pissed off. Better to send them on their way now than to have to see their ugly faces on TV later. Thank you Simon.

Simon is actually my favorite, usually he just says what everybody else is thinking. But i guess sometimes he can be a bit mean. but personally if i were auditioning i would trust what he says more than anybody. although he was gonna pass on Taylor hicks last year.
