It depends on how bad it is. If it's swollen and infected you need to see a doctor. If it isn't, get an oranje stick, gently pull the ingrown part up and push a small amount of cotten underneath and leave it there until it grows out long enough to cut. And always cut straight across.

Not having the money at the time for a doctor, I began, years ago, the practice of getting a bit drunk, and taking an exacto knife and slicing the toe nail down the toe to the quick and then pulling it from the flesh of my toe with plyers. Since it already hurts, I pour alcohol over it to kill any germs and then put on bandages. In about two days you can walk without pain.

or, you could see your doctor.

Only by a doctor surgically removing the toenail to re- grow properly.

I have one, but I rather suffer through the pain.

You can actually go to a pediatrist (get the name of one from your GP) and they flip it out from under the skin and trim it. If its really bad then they will freeze it. If not they won't but it takes like 2 seconds or less so not unbearably painful. the only crappy part is that they put silver nitrate in the fight off infection so a bit of your nail goes black but you can file it off after a week.
