it doesnt happen very often. all of a sudden when i breathe i feel pain either in my left or right side. when i breathe normally i cant feel it as much, but if i take deep breaths it really hurts.
it usually goes away when i sleep for a while or overnight. i kind of doubt it's my heart because it hurts on both sides (never both sides at once). im not overweight or anything. im about 6' and weigh around 160lbs. i dont really exercise.
i appreciate any help. thank you.

pan on deep breathing is usually pleuritic, or from the pleura (lining of the lungs). It can also be from the ribs or cartilage between the ribs.

At 6', 160lbs I do have a question for you... measure your arm length, that is finger tip to finger tip. Then measure your height. Dvide your arm length by your height and see if it is >1.05?
If it is see if you can wrap your pinky and thumb around your wrist, so that they touch., normally you shluldn't be able to. Also, do you have a deformity in the center of your chest? kind of like a pigeon chest (pectus carinatum) or a pushed in sternum (pectus excavatum). Do you have flat feet? Are you able to fully extend your elbows to a straight line? Do you have a high arched palate? If you do.. you may have marfans syndrome. In that case I would suggest you bring it up with your physician to confirm...

Well I have had simalar problems and went to the dr. and after weeks of test, scans, and x-rays my Dr. did a upper scope and found that I had a ulcer on the top side of my stomache opening.

I rather doubted that this was the problem til he put me on meds for ulcers....and lo and behold...I have not had the pain since. I could not believe that a ulcer could effect me that high in the chest and in different locations....but now I am a frim believer.....so in short.....go see your Dr.

all chest pain should not relates to the heart problem. the chest pain may have the several reason like acidity, gas problem, it may also due to the cold, high and low b/p etc.etc. So plz dont be panic and take some test like your b/p, acidity, gas problem etc. and do exercise in routine. it very must for all but specially mandatory after 40+. so pls be happy and dont worry.
