When I try to log on to certain sites, I get the message ‘Your browser is not Java enabled. Please enable java through: Tools->Internet Options->Security Settings->Custom Level->Internet”. I am prompted to change all radio buttons to ‘Enable’, which I have done. I am then prompted to repeat the process for ‘Trusted Sites’ which also I have done. Next, I am prompted to follow these instructions: “In the same ‘Security Settings’ (Tools à Internet Options à Security à Internet à Custom level à Java Custom Settings) window, click ‘Java Custom Settings…’. A new window will open. Select the second panel ‘Edit Permissions’. I am unable to find ‘Java Custom Settings’ when I click ‘Custom Level’. Hence I am unable to change all radio buttons to ‘Enable’ as directed. For this reason, I am unable to make my browser java enabled. Where do I find link for editing Java Custom Settings Permission?

For having your browser java enabled, first of all you need to have the java software(aka java virtual machine, the java runtime environment) running on your computer. Once you get it properly in place, your browser would allow you to change the settings you mentioned and would duly start displaying the java content and applets on those sites.

For downloading java RTE , go to http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

You must search MSN for download for PERMISSION to enable JAVA RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT. Though MICROSOFT didn't invent JAVA. With the advent of XP and Windows live, (EVEN IF YOU RUN A MAC), Microsoft CREATED & CONTROLS ITS OWN SPECIAL JAVA ENVIRONMENT & even runs real JAVA APPLETS in their own software, You still must make sure permissive Java Runtime Environment is installed. Best solution, go to Java Site & e-mail tech for solution. They have new versions of downloads of entire program & fixes etc.

1) Please click StarMenu->Run
2) in the appeared box type:
%systemroot%\Downloaded Program Files
and press ENTER
3) In the folder that is opened see if you see the following plug-in:
"Java Runtime Environment 1.4.2"
Your version may not be 1.4.2
4) If you don't have that plug-in installed, or you wish to delete the current one and then reinstall, you may download "Download J2SE JRE" from here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

Wish that helps
