There is no best instrument at all because everyone has different liking on each instruments.
I suggest you commence your music journey with piano first because piano is much easier to learn than other instrument. I playing both instruments, piano and violin and I realized that Grade 3 violin is so much difficult than Grade 5 piano.
Nevertheless, instrument learning difficulties varied for different people. Some may find other instruments are much more easier to learn than piano.
If you are thinking of venturing further into music industry, learning piano is a mandatory, especially when looking for jobs or entering music college.

even though i play guitar and many other instruments, the piano is the best of the three to start with. because a piano does such an excellent job of laying the musical scale right out in front of you you're able to learn the basics of music theory much quicker. if you can play a piano you can play almost anything after that, so not only are you skilled in that instrument but it's a building block to the others. also, if you're interested in taking your music beyond a hobby stage piano is usually a requirement whether it's schooling or professionally.

It can portray any emotion,
its amazing,
comes in way cooler colours than the rest of the bunch,
fits in perfectly with any genre of music,
makes the chicks want you more [if that's a factor]
and Piano-Hero/ Drum-God just sounds retarded

I started on the drums and swithched to guitar. Drumming helped me be a better guitarists.

I love guitar. But I would really love to be able to play piano. I keep imagining myself playing "The Entertainer" at a really important function and drawing a huge crowd. lol
Your neighbours will kill you if you get a drumkit.
Can't go wrong with a guitar.
Have to agree with the above answer. Play a blues harp!! Just so raunchy, sexy and bluesy.

I love guitar, but let's face it - A long long time ago, the earlierst instruments led to the piano, which brought forth guitars and such.
