The full name for this car is 'Smart for Two' as ther eis also a model for 4 people and a roadster too. It is actually made by Mercedes Benz, NOT BMW and it was originally designed by Swatch, the Swiss watch manufacturor.
It usually comes with a 600cc turbo charged 3 cylinder engine and has a 6 speed triptronic gearbox.
A great car to drive (especially if you de-restrict it!) and you get plenty of attention in one of these, especially off the ladies.
Despite looking very small, they are very spacious inside for seating and yes you can get your family shopping in it!
If you want a laugh, put in 'smart car' as a search in google video and you will see one thats been modified, kick a ferarris *** and also one that has been driven into a concrete wall at 70mph.

Smart Car made by BMW and hopefully soon to be imported to US. Great little 2 passanger car with room behind the seat for a couple of bags of groceries. First saw them about 4 or 5 years ago in France and Belgium. A great car for getting around in big cities and easy to park. They also go pretty fast on the Autoroute in France. Would love to have one here in Dayton Ohio.
