I also have a toshiba laptop. I have sung it's praises since the first day I owned it. I LOVE it. Now, on to the question. When you say you think it's from the power supply, do you mean from the outlet in which it is plugged in to? And, what do you mean by "do laptops have separate power supplies? Mine has one power cord. It charges the battery when it is plugged in to an outlet. The battery life is about 3-4 hours. Perhaps the battery is not properly attached to the laptop itself. Does the computer work when it is plugged in to a wall outlet?

laptop battery is good for about two years depending on usage. if your laptop is running fine without battery on the adopter (power supply of laptop), most probably you need to charge the new battery for 4-5 hours with the laptop off. if the battery still empty, work on the laptop and see for how long the laptop stays on, there might be some problem with the software showing the battery status. after doing all this troubleshooting contact Toshiba and tell them the problem, there might be something wrong with bios, there is a way to update or fix it, if they are not aware of the problem in this model, i would say the new battery you got is either not compatible or not good. see if u can replace or return it.
good luck

it's integrated into the laptop. It HAS to have a power supply because the plug into the wall is 115 volts and the battery is usually around 8 to 15 volts. The charger/power supply is probably bad. SORRY.

The connection between the adopter and laptop of your Toshiba has broken just verify this by shaking up,down, left and right after plug in if this is so please consult technician or not then better you have to replace whole laptop because power supply is mounted with main board which is as costly as new Toshiba laptop with service charge.

both of my laptops have ither the battery or power of course. you might have a bad battery or the computer is not charging it. some power packs have two seperate hots and a ground. on of them hots may not be working.
