in pokemon gold/silver versions where are the evolution stones sold? because ive looked in all the mart even the major ones and cant seem to find them!

In Gold, Silver and crystal you can't buy the stones. You'll need to wait until you get over to Kanto and head to Bills house, he'll ask for specific Pokemon, once you show them to him he'll give you the stone for them:
Pichu-thunder stone
Growlithe/Vulpix-Fire Stone
etc. The only stone you can obtain easily is if you win the bug-catching contest, first prize is a sun stone.

They're not sold in G/S/C. You'll have to find them yourself, except for Sun Stone, which you get for 1st place the the Bug Catching Contest.
Or, if you're desperate, buy stones in R/B/Y, then attach them to a pokemon and trade it over to G/S/C to get it.
