Megan, if you do report him, as the first poster said, he would pay the court and they would pay you.

Before doing that though, I would advise one thing. Find out first, why he isn't paying. You said he has a job but you asked if you must know where. Does he in fact, have a job or have you heard it second or third hand so you're not really sure? Was he laid off from one? Is he disabled? A person cannot pay what they don't have. Courts often put people in jail for non-payment and in my state, take away a driver license which further hampers the job search effort. If he is not working and seems sincere in his interest to work, offer to help him look; maybe you know someone whose hiring. Anything to get him into the workforce and earning a living so that he can in turn, pay you.

If he really does have a job, you should give him one final opportunity to make payment arrangements. If he still refuses, then go to your child support enforcement office. You can find the phone # and location in the Government pages of your local telephone book, or online under Ohio state government offices.

You shouldn't have to go this alone; good luck.

The non-payment of support is no reason for you to violate the court's order of visitation. It is true that you might think that you can retailliate by withholding the child from his father, but that would be a violation of the custody order the same as withholding support is a violation of the support order. You should have the court ATTACH his wages so that they will be taken from his paycheck automatically and then sent to the court and then the court will pay it to you. That way you'll have a record of his timely payments. If his employer refuses to obey the attachment order then the employer is subject to arrest and jail time, as well as a large fine. The attachment is a Federal law that the states can implement. The support is for the benefit of the child not for the benefit of you. You will have to go into court and file a petition for enforcement of the court's order of support and ask for his wages to be attached. You should also have the order set up so that he will pay on the current support order as well as some amount on the arrears .. so that he'll pay on the past due amount while he's paying on the current amount.

Do you really think you need to ask whether or not you should report him? If you want money from him then yes you should report him. If you don't want money from him then no you shouldn't report him. Most employers now a days require that you fill out paperwork when you get hired so that they can file it with the child support offices in case you are trying to be a dead beat dad. If your ex had the job before he got ordered to pay then he may not be found out about until he changes jobs.

All employers are required to submit new hires to all, yes ALL states. This is how Child Support Divisions are informed that a person is employed and has wages that can be garnished.
However, if the dollar amount of the garnishment is greater than a given percentage of what he has earned then the whole garnishment cannot be taken. If he has not earned enough in a paycheck (not enough hours) then the garnishment cannot be taken at all.
If you suspect that the applicable Child Support Division is not aware of his employment you can certainly call them and let them know that you know he is employed and where that is.

Most states, to my knowledge, handle this through the attorney general. You can contact them, or your local child support worker about it. Local child support is often through the county.

Yes, you should report him. This is money you are due to help raise the child you both created.

And, I am a man, who pays child support faithfully, and spends time with my kids every chance I get. This kind of thing is what gives us a bad name.

You will not need to know where he works, as they will have ways to find out where he works.

Best go to child protective services in your county. It they aren't the ones who collect delinquent child support they will know which agency does.
But on the outside chance they don't know then go back to the judge who ordered the child support. His or her office will know who you will need to get in contact with and where to get the necessary paper work. They might even help you fill it out.

If you can find out where he is working and even better how much he is making that will also be a big help, but it is not necessary.

yes, you should report him

Do a google search for Ohio child support enforcement and it should bring you to a website where you can file against him. Make sure you have your court papers from when he was ordered to pay it. Usually they will take the child support directly from his wages.

Ohio has a child support enforcement department. He would have to pay them and they pass it on to you. Just tell them whatever you know about him and they will find him.

Why on Earth would you not require him to support his child? Your time for being a wimp is over. You're a mother now!

Yes, you should.

For one thing, you should do it for your child. I would imagine that the money would help. If you don't need it, you could always put it in a trust or college fund.

For another, you should do your part in making him take care of his responsibilities. For you and for him and for the child.

It will take a while, but, if he continues nonpayment, he will be arrested. Sometimes the best thing you can do for a person is to allow the consequences to their actions to take place.

Well YEAH...u need to report him, he needs to help with the money...children are not so cheap. Once the gov. knows where he works, his wages will be garnished, and you will get some of the child support that is owed to you.

I'm not sure which government office to contact...you could call one of your local attorneys and they could tell you...
