Agreed
It's none of anyone else's business whether you want to kill yourself or have a doctor help you in it. The government should stop trying to play mommy... people are smart enough to make their own deciscions and they will just have to accept their own consequences
If you disagree with it on religious bounds.... I have a novel idea... DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF... but get your big nose out of someone else's business and let them make their own deciscion

It is a choice just like suicide or where to work or what to wear.. As a Christian I do understand the concept of ONLY God has the right to take a life but from life experience I totally agree that it's o.k. I suffer severe pain and my docs won't even give me anything that works to relieve it.. I hurt sometimes so bad, I just cry.. If I had cancer or something that was CONSTANT unbearable pain I would want to die.. Doctors are supposed to do all they can to relieve pain and make their patients comfortable.. Mine hasn't done that in a LONG time.. I am so tired of hearing people say "don't u care about the ones left behind".. My philosophy is: if they really cared about me.. they would not want me to suffer. As an adult, I feel that it's my choice to decide when where and HOW I die.. if I am ready.. the MD's should help..U will never get unbiased answers on this.. nor will anyone ever agree but I know what it's like to experience severe pain and it's cruel to ask anyone to endure it.

My thought on this is that as adults we have the right to make our own decisions, and amongst those should be when we choose to die and how much, or little pain we need to go thru to accomplish that means, I am not talking about suicide, I am talking assistance to end a life where no real life or hope for quality life is apparent, Were I to find that I were terminally ill, I would go and finish the list of always wanted to do things , and then find a way to go to sleep when the illness took total control. No person should have to suffer unnecessarily in death. Just one persons thoughts.

As a nurse,I have seen many people die in horrible pain.It is a terrible thing to watch. Some of them have grabbed my hand and begged me to "kill" them.I cannot imagine what type of pain you have to be in to ask someone to do that.
I am a Christian, I am sure that God does not want us to suffer.A terminally ill person should be able to say when they cannot tolerate the suffering anymore.
Doctors will order pain medications in increasing doses,to ease the persons suffering. But,the human body can only tolerate so much strong pain medication before the vital organs start to slow down, especially breathing.I have known on a few occasions that the injection I am about to give to that person might be the last one their body can handle. Are the doctors(and myself) assisting that person to die?It depends how you look at it.Without the medication, they will have severe pain.
Personally,if it were my family that was lying there in pain,I would prefer that someone could help them pass peacefully.

I also think it is a choice, there are a few things to think about - where do you draw the line - only people who are near death? Can a person who is very depressed go to the doctor also? What about children? And of course what about life insurance - say you have paid into it for 30 years where does the money go, to the people you have chosen or as in a regular suicide is the money lost?
I hope I never have to make that choice or anyone in my family.

I agree with you! I don't understand how we can let a loved one lay and suffer. My older brother has the control over our 90 year old father and he went against our Fathers wishes that were stated in Dad's living will. Dad had a Do Not Resuscitate. Dad stated quite plainly No Feeding tubes!(he has had one for over a year and a half) No I.V..'s(he has had one for over a year and a half) But it is to late now Dad is awake and somewhat lucid. He can talk. He would be in pain now. If taken off of the feeding tubes and medications. He would suffer.I hate seeing my beloved Father in this shape.I am not angry with my Brother because My brother thought he was doing the right thing. He thought that the Dr.'s could restore our Dad to perfect health. How ever my brother said that if Dad were to have a relapse he would not interfere he'd Let the lord take Dad home. I did let the Vet euthanize my very old very sick cat. I know my Dad is not a Cat but he is very special to me and he DID NOT WANT TO LIVE THIS WAY! My Dad was a preacher he loved the Lord so do I and I trust that the Lord won't let my Father suffer much longer.

I think it should be the persons right to choose. There are alot of worse things out there then death. The misery some go through with end term illnesses is unhumane. I think they should have the option. Though only limited to end term patients.

It is life of some one , It is believed that God created any individual soul on earth as per His image.
when a matter of wordly discussion we do get created by parents where our role is nothing , until you could move around develop and become a man or woman the parents or a Governmet body is involved , nothing of our own.
when we did not put our effort to become a man or woman what authority we as individual have on our lives???

For me, religion is irrelevant.
If MY doctor, a scientist whom I trust, tells me that I am going to die and my last few days will be painful and unproductive, well then, I go with the doctor - Pull my plug!
The short answer to your question - Yes - it IS a choice. And it's too bad that our lawyers have to put our doctors in this situation.

It is certainly an individual's right.
And, God must be OK with it since he has never done anything indicating otherwise.
Above all else, it is neither the government's nor any religion's business.
