I recently gave birth to my fourth child (he's two months old now) and had my first period. It woke me up it hurt so bad. i thought maybe i was just hungry, because the pain wasn't where it usually is from my past periods. It's more of a under the ribcage, in the middle of the abdomen pain. I noticed if I drink something carbonated it feels better, but mostly the pain just makes me sick. It went away when my period was over, but now that i've started my second one the pain is back. So what's the deal? Is it my body getting used to having periods again? (This is my second baby in two years) and if so, how long til I have normal, somewhat non-painful periods again? Ibuprofen doesn't seem to work to make it go away either, so any advice on making it feel better is most appreciated!

I take it you've went back to your doc for your 6 week check up? If it continues like this another month you should go back to your doctor and get checked out for this specifically. In the meantime, eat plenty of fiber (or take citrucel for fiber), it does take time for your body to recover from giving birth, try midol for the pain, use a heating pad, and use pads instead of tampons. These are just a few things that can help with the pain. And please remember to give yourself time for your body to heal before doing any strenous activities like heavy lifting, etc. Good luck.

I would definitely seek your gynaecologist and tell him about the pain you are experiencing with your periods.the first couple periods after child birth can be pain full as your uterus gets back to normal cycle and size.
